Bluff your way in Wine Tasting – 5 great sites.

March 7th, 2010 Pete Wood

wineglasses So we all think we know a thing or two about wine tasting, and indeed many of us are vastly experienced in this past-time. But do you know your Bordeaux from your Chianti? Wine tasting is a fine art.

Below we’ve put together 5 great sites for bluffing your way in wine tasting.  And that’s the perfect excuse for opening a few different bottles of wine on a Friday night to taste them all. These are beginners sites and you won’t find any cork-snobbery here!

Sally’s Place

A good place to start is knowing the lingo.  This is a great glossary of terms and descriptions that can be a little intimidating to wine bluffers.  Learn to walk-the-walk, and talk-the-talk with this simple wine glossary, and you’ll soon be sounding like Jilly Goolden.

The Epicentre

Guides you through step-by-step the process of swirling, tasting, and (ahem) swallowing.  How to follow your nose and assess it’s oakiness.

Vino Vixenz

All sorts of great beginner guides to getting started,  serving the wine, hosting a wine tasting party, and wine storage.

LondonEater

This site introduces the main players in the world of wine, and gives you a concise summary of the major grapes.

Local Wine Events

Once you’ve mastered the basics, why not try out your new found expertise at a wine tasting event.  Take a look at localwineevents.com for nearby availability.

And finally, for the ultimate wine tasting experience,  you could always purchase the Ultimate Wine Tasting Kit from various retailers.
